Pre-histroic murals claimed to have been found in Almora

ALMORA: Pre-historic murals have been claimed to have been found in Pattharkhola village of Almora.
Lalit Joshi, teacher at the SSJ College, who found the murals a few days ago, claimed that “the murals painted in a saffron colour corresponded exactly to the murals of Lakhudiyar, a famous prehistoric site near Petsal village of Almora.”
“I got to know of these rocks, which have small holes init, from the local residents.I had read about some rocks with cup marks whichwere earlier used in various rituals. I then made up my mind to visit the area,”he said.
At the village, Joshi says he also spotted several paintings of what looked like a group of people.
“These paintings are very similar to the ones in Lakhudiyar,” hesaid.
As the word spread of the presence of the murals, a team of the state archaeology department visited the site on Tuesday and studied the paintings.
Chandra Singh Chouhan of the archaeology department based in Almora, told TOI, “Though the murals look similar to the ones in Lakhudiyar, we will submit a report in the matter soon after conducting carbon dating and other related researches. Without that, we won’tbe able to say much about the period that the murals belong to.”
